Thread: My Journey Down the Rabbit Hole that is DPRK

DPRK performed a test of a hydrogen bomb. If they will continue with this, even China will make sure the country wont stay as it is now.
As terribly as it sounds, it might be a good news.

I think it's a much more complex issue than that.

Learning a lot more about the Korean War aka "The Forgotten War." It's really quite sad that as an average American I knew so little about it, yet so many Americans (and Korean and Chinese) people died, and it also had a huge impact on our relations in that region, as well as on politics back here.

Some of the more interesting things I've learned so far.

Stalin basically pitted North Korea and China against the US
Man US deaths could have been avoided had it not been for the blatant racism of the commanding General Douglas MacArthur
After we defended and took back the Seoul, MacArthur insisted on pushing up into North Korea to try to overtake them and it backfired greatly
Stalin was by almost all measures worse than Hitler. During his 32 years in power an estimated 30-60 million people died because of him, between executions, war, famine, and genocides.
Communism is the fakest thing of all time, and is basically just a cover up for people to execute their power over others. None of the "great" communist leaders ever gave a shit about actual communism, and were all borderline paranoid schizophrenics.

the 'best'(worst?) documentary I saw on Netflix or Discovery channel, can't remember. Some eye doctor went to NK on some charity thing. Gave free cataract laser surgery to like 100-1000 people or something, in like 3 weeks time. The Nork's were ALL OVER HIM: escorts, censoring shit, etc. The tried to document as much as they could.

Sad part was: population get cataracts like we get the common cold . . . younger folks, middle-aged people who are practically blind. Malnutrition or no Vit. A or whatever I guess. Common turf grass isn't as nutritious as you would think.

Anyways, its like a bang bang operation; assembly line type thing cause so many patients in a small window of time. One day you get the treatment/laser. Next day they are taking the bandages/eye patches off . . . people who were 95% blind can now magically can see. AS SOON THE EYE PATCHES WERE REMOVED, the patient walks up to a portrait of the Leader hung on the wall (because there's a pic of him in every goddamned building and room), says: "I'm so greatful I can see the image of the Greater Leader once more." . . . VERY FIRST words out of their mouths . . . some start crying. Several instances like this. I mean, one person had not seen their own family for a decade or two, or had EVER seen their recently born grandkids. The patients I guess knew/were told there were camera's everywhere. It was so staged.

Other stuff like the 'escorts' hounding his staff/camera men: photographer took a picture of a BIG statue of the Leader. The camera man got down on the ground, laying down so the perspective was "up" . . . to make the statue look more grandioso / taller. They jumped his shit in heart beat. Said it was inappropriate, threatened to take all his gear away and kick the whole operation out of the country. Photographer explained, was trying to make staue look more impressive, better, etc . . . .the Norks could not wrap their mind around it, were pissed.
