There was a 91kg class and a 108kg class between 1993-1997 so I think it would unlikely that they would be reused.

    1. Because all of the current weight class records have been set by heavy dopers, so they hope to "reset" the world records by creating new weight classes, and clamping down on drug use in the sport.

    2. As WL grows, 8 weight classes isn't quite enough, so instead of just stuffing two new weight classes in there, it makes more sense to restructure them.

No pre existing WL classes are going to be reused. Phil said that.

That's what has been done the time they reset the classes in '92 and '98.

Wow I see why they would do this but records are records.. need to be kept in my opinion, unless caught doping, just simply erase all their results

Technically you can't compare records as a 60kg lifter vs 64 vs 62. On top of that with stricter drug testing there are going to be fewer records made, much less "excitement" in competitions. Part of the reasoning for changing in the first place was that no new records were made after the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Let's take for example the men's 110kg records: 210 snatch, 250 C+J. In 30 years no one would approach these records. Almost all of the original weight classes have records set that are not even being surpassed save the 56s, 69 snatch, 77 snatch, and 105+ snatch. Last reason is you can't compare results from pre-92 to now due to the context of testing. Back then, sometimes record setters or medalists were not tested in the same event. Now, I'm pretty confident I've seen a WADA rep attach themselves to every single medalist in a session.
