It is so bizarre that he would do strongly deny doing what is essentially nothing. I wonder if he thinks this will somehow get Putin in trouble or make Putin angry? Why else would he deny it, or even care?

I'm sure he doesn't understand American media, and is afraid it would affect his business. If I did business in Russia, I would feel the need to respond to a news story that seemed to portray me negatively. I'm sure anyone in weightlifting or crossfit knows he doesn't have the political/financial influence to do something like that anyway.

Maybe because it's not actually true...

Don't quote me and add someone else's take to it, I'm not encouraging a flex situation.

If its not true then Buzzfeed could get sued pretty badly. Making claims like that with no evidence to back it up, especially saying they have email records is an incredibly bad business decision since the Trumps are known for sueing at the drop of a hat. Ivanka even released something saying she wasn't in contact with Klokov but instead Klokov's wife, who reached out to her but she just passed it off to Cohen.

To me it sounds like so semi-shady stuffy was going on but they all covered themselves up well enough that nothing will truly come from it.

That's possible. But it's quite the bold claim to not only say that an official congressional investigation turned up the emails, but to go even further to say that the reporter personally saw them.

Of course with the modern media being as lazy as the rest of the population, and conducting "interviews" with anonymous people over text messages, it's possible that everything printed is false.

A congressional investigation should have been able to establish that the emails were in fact sent from Klokov, or at least an account he manages. It's going to be hard to continue denying it, if they did.

Again, it's odd that he is so defensive over what is essentially nothing. Even if he didn't do it, his reaction is stronger than you'd expect.

The American legal system has a very high bar for libel. Trump et al. would have to prove that Buzzfeed reported the information while knowing it was false and knowing that it would cause harm. That's one of the major reasons why "fake news" is very difficult to subject to legal action.
