Going to be a boring second half of 2020. No Olympics, no WWC, no surrogate global competition.

The changes to the qualification system were made before the whole OG were moved.

Since there's now an additional year, why not extend the time frame to include the postponed continental champs? At the moment they're over by July, thereafter you could call it a day and freeze the rankings.

I just hope the original idea of four scores counting gets reinstated.

Do you think the European Championships will be held in June after all? The African one was moved again for what it's worth.

I wouldn't hold my breath for either including the USAW AO2. Maybe if this shit clears but that means it basically need to be clear by mid May.

BTW, why was the Junior WWC uniquely cancelled instead of postponed? By Sep/Oct/Nov things will have normalized.

European WL fed has announced (as if this was a surprise) that the June 13th date that they originally re-scheduled Europeans to will be pushed back to a TBA date.

There's an open letter from Ursula on the IWF website.

Since this discussion primarily concerns Olympic qualifying, I note the follow paragraph (bold for emphasis):

Regarding the Olympic Games Qualification System, the IWF Executive Board has approved modifications in accordance with the International Olympic Committee Olympic Games Qualification guidelines. We await approval, but the rationale for the modifications was to restore the qualification system as it currently existed prior to the effects of COVID 19 and to ensure delivery of clean sport in the 2020 Olympic Games to be held in 2021.

So the IWF has made a decision about qualifying and wants to retain the system and scores obtained before the global shutdown.

The JWC has not been cancelled, or at least, it has not as yet. Simply a new date has not yet been set. Other events have set new dates, and on occasion, had to modify them a 2nd time.

So far the only outright cancelled event due to Covid-19 is the IWF Masters Worlds in Orlando, USA.
