Well probably because its 80% of his old 1rm so basically what would be and old warmup.

Hmm, maybe the work put in years ago provides a base, but when he was fecking around with the body building nonsense his jerk was completely terrible at times. And it was very inconsistent back when he was with Mash.

He’s also made a technical adjustment which seems to be helping him significantly - he moves his arms out wider at the top of the Clean. He just looks a lot more consistent with it in training. The days of super dodgy lock outs seem to be in the past.

Maybe that will change if he gets up to 170+, as you suggest.

yeah, I heard he had spaced out his jerk a tiny bit of late. Needed to get a better lockout. His elbows tended to be a bit soft or just bent from a clean grip during his BBing time.

At 89, if he can't muster 160 and 190, it won't matter. He'll need at least that to get anywhere as an 89 with Downey, Blackwell, and Cantrell. Really he needs more to beat Cantrell on a good day.

He tried the wider grip back at MDUSA and eventually hit 195kg I think. He was cleaning it with the wider grip as well though instead of adjusting like he's doing now.

He’s clearly not going to hit a 350 total as a part time 33 year old athlete currently totalling 304. 320 is very possible however and - considering everything that has happened - would be a tremendous achievement. Honestly, him just being back healthy and competing has been a fine accomplishment. He seems to be genuinely enjoying it too, which is great to see.

Cheers Dylan, surprised Mash didn’t see that in 2014.

He better work on his lockout with the wide grip. He's only got a couple years left as a senior. Those jerks would never pass at masters nationals.
