The list has been updated and now includes the women from Japan (W49 Miyake W55 Yagi W59 Andoh) which are entered via the host country quota, unlike the men who qualified 4 through the regular rankings.
This means the 3 unused (male) host quota places will be reallocated to countries not yet represented.

Three observations from some further PDF study:

    a) Max Lang GER is comically overrated by the instagram kids, you know the type of person who has never heard the name Huster or Weller.

    b) The UK has already qualified three women and if Colombia is suspended it's going to be four, the maximum and as many as China! But zero men and it's not even close for any of them. What's up with that?

    c) For all the chatter about Italy recently and the base Urso laid the groundwork for - what the hell did they do with the women at Euros?

Their hightest ranked 49 Russo wasn't even entered (and it's not like they had a full team).
    Their 55 Lombardo bombed.
Their 59 Alemanno wasn't entered as well?
Their 64 Bordignon - although now qualified - was missing too!? The ranking wasn't as clear back then.

So 3 out of 4 women in the running didn't even try to improve their standings? Back before we knew about PRK definitely missing, before China's selection, before the ITA/IMFSP doping announcements.
If you look at the listing now it's pretty close for most of them. What were they thinking?

    A) Max is very popular yes, because he promotes himself through his YouTube channel, instagram and he is a sponsored athlete. The poor performance in the snatch at the Europeans and the clean & jerk in Colombia really buried his chances of qualification.Nico Muller is much more discrete but a better athlete although I don't think he will have any chance in Tokyo.

    B) I maybe mistaken but I think that the funding in UK is currently limited to athletes who have a chance to medal at competitions, which happen to be female ,the podcast Sinclair Debate mentioned it, can't remember the episode.

    C) Italy... Russo had a baby at the end of 2020,Lombardo almost dislocated her elbow and Alemmano, well, those two are probably the worst (technique)Italian lifters in my opinion. Don't know what happened with Bordignon, last time she competed in 2020 was in Rome, she snatched 102 or 103kg..last weekend she lifted in a small event in Italy but only snatched 97 and jerked 115kg

All funding was withdrawn a couple of years ago in the UK, so the girls dont get anything either. When there was last funding it was indeed pointed at the women only though.

The UK women have done amazingly well the last few years, lets hope the men can follow suit in the not too distant future. The more the playing field is levelled over time the better chance they will have

    A. Who are you talking about, who pissed in your cereal mate? I thought you wouldn't see the zoomers any more after you left reddit.

    B. UK funding was pulled form all athletes as noted below. IMO the women, having performed better are probably more likely to have gotten funding from sponsors and thus been able to dedicate themselves more towards the sport.

    C. Qualitatively, Bordignon hasn't looked in quite as good shape as she was last year. Lifted poorly at an internal Italian comp and appeared to be managing something. Helder has addressed the other points below. I think it's important to note that this is the peak of a system and as such n= a small number. Alemanno not being entered is strange.

Nino Pizzolato was in excellent shape at Euros, as was Mirko Zanni.

IMO Italy's junior team has been just as interesting than their current senior team - I'm more interested to see how Giulia Imperio, Giulia Miserendino, Sergio Massida, Davide Ruiu, and Fabio Pizzolato end up.

Thanks. Interesting to see they’ve reallocated the unused continental spots to the next ranked athlete in the general classification (it’s logical but I thought they might have added them to the tripartite pool for the purpose of universality).

Beneficiaries of the Continental reallocations are:

W87+: Sarah Fischer (AUT) takes the unallocated African spot.
M81: Erkand Qerimaj (ALB) takes the unallocated Asian spot.
M109+: Peter Nagy (HUN) takes the unallocated African spot.

Weighlifting House reported yesterday that the Colombians probably will be banned only after the Games, the source being Brian Oliver??
