I honestly believe they are having no problem with the virus.

Being a police state, they could just quarantine the 'entire' 100 person team for 3 weeks on the way back....test the shit out of them.

I believe the country is in shambles, more than normal, indirectly from the C19-economic-fallout (not from people dying left and right)
and the C19-fake-reasons give them some excuses to turtle up a bit more until things get sorted out.

Probably fear of some athletes (and handler personnel) defecting.

Updated IWF Tokyo Qualification System has been published (May 4).

    https://www.iwf.net/tokyo2020/

    Major changes are:

    (1) Ranking score changed to: best result from period 1 + best result from period 2 + next two best results from any of periods 1/2/3.

    (2) The requirement for athletes to compete twice in an Olympic category has been reduced to a requirement to compete once in Olympic category.

The final qualifying period will run for another month (until May 31). So the ranking lists will continue to change as competition results are loaded.

The documents released today outline the changes in the procedure by which the ranking lists are calculated. The changed procedure is now incorporated into the ranking lists.

Well, they updated the Ranking with the Europeans and the Asians results, guess we have to wait at least after the Junior worlds + one week...

Seems like the IWF is pissing everyone off these days...
    Article worth reading!

"Take the Chinese team for example, it cost about $500,000 for the 57-person team to participate in the Asian Championships, which proved to be an entirely unnecessary event for us to attend, not to mention the four-week quarantine after returning to China.

"There are hundreds of people like us, who did not need to participate in non-compulsory events, and took the travel risks to the European Championships and Pan-American Championships last month as well.

"All this could have been avoided if early action had been taken by the IWF."

Only thing that crosses my mind is the IWF makes some profit from the continental championships happening and therefore postponed these updates until each championship was complete.

I'm more inclined to believe that the Executive Board has little or no regard for the welfare of athletes and teams.
